RULES

The Quarter Mile Game
The Quarter Mile Game is a racing game where players aim to have the car matching their assigned playing card cross the finish line first.  Cars move based on dice rolls, but watch out – if you get caught speeding, you will pay a fine!  The winning car takes the pot and the respect…

To some, that’s more important.

Set-up and Game Play

Place cars: Position one car in each lane on the board behind the starting line

Pot: Use a cup, bowl or random object capable of holding items as the pot

Schmorter: This is the only word that rhymes with quarter. We reccommend starting with 60 sChMorTeRs which is equal to 15 "Moneys" You can use any coin, chip or nut as your "schmorter"

Prepare Cards: Adjust the deck based on the number of players

⦁    The cards you hold represent the lane and the car that you want to win. Each card corresponds to a lane on the board. 2-10 for the numbered cards and Jack = 11, Queen = 12 Remove the Kings and Aces

⦁    2 players: Use one suit (e.g. hearts). Shuffle and deal 11 cards evenly between the two players and the *Ghost Racer

⦁    3+ players: Use all four suits. Shuffle and deal the 48 cards as evenly as possible. The pot is now split between 4 winning cards. Having more of the same card will give a bigger cut from the pot. Trading cards is ok.

Get ready to race:
⦁    Lay your cards on the table face up and allow for trading if you want to take a chance.

⦁    Trades can be made at any time throughout the game but remember, “it doesn't matter if it’s by an inch or a mile…winning’s winning.”  You dont have to share any schmorters with the original card owner

Starting Player:  For the first game, give the dice to the player who most recently backed their vehicle into something,  If it happens to be a woman, it wasn’t her fault.  Choose someone else. You can add any vehicular gimmick for the next games to decide the starting player.

Choose 4 Speeders:
⦁    The chosen player who obviously sucks at driving will roll the two dice; the sum (2-12) is the first speeder. Move the car in that corresponding lane backwards just off the board and place the #1 speeding marker in its place.

⦁    Players holding the card of the first speeder rolled will discard and add 1 schmorter to the pot per each discarded card.

⦁    Repeat this for speeding markers #2 but add 2 schmorters per card. For #3 add 3 coins and #4 add 4 coins. Re-roll if a car is already chosen

⦁    If a player has no cards after the speeders are chosen, they are out this round unless someone lends them a card.

Green Light! GO! GO! GO!

⦁    Roll the two dice and add the sum (2-12)

⦁    Move the matching car forward one space

⦁    If it matches a speeder, add schmorters to the pot equal to the speeding marker (1,2,3,4)

⦁    Continue counterclockwise – Just like NASCAR…always turn left

⦁    The first car to cross the finish line wins! Collect the pot and split if needed

⦁    Reset the cars and race again!!

Notes and Optional Rules

⦁    The Ghost Racer: His Name is Paul. Always deal Paul in. He is here for the thrill of the race and not the prize so if Paul wins, leave the pot, reset the game and race again!

⦁    Out Of Coin? You never have to be out, just get more schmorters

⦁    Rolling Cars. If you want to stop your cars from rolling around, just

add a dab of glue where a wheel meets the car near the axel.

⦁    Undercover Cop: After choosing the 4 speeders take the #2 Marker and designate it as Brian the undercover cop! Why? because the 5-Oh... Keep Brian’s car in the race and move him forward everytime his number is rolled. You still have to add to the pot if you roll the #2 But If Brian wins, leave the pot and reset the game!

⦁    The Used Car Dealer: If you're clever enough to trade any of the discarded cards for a card that’s still in play the player that you traded with owes you a “schmorter”. Just give them their card back!

⦁    DWI:  If a player bumps the table and the cars get out of place they receive a DWI and have to add 2 schmorters to the pot. If it happens a second time they will have lawyer fees and must pay each player 2 schmorters. If it happens a THIRD time the player loses their license and must discard all their cards until the next game!

⦁    Tow Truck Driver: If the dice fall off the table and hit the ground we call that a flat tire. Whoever picked up the dice off the ground becomes the tow truck driver!  Pay them 1 schmorter for their service and re-roll the dice. Thats it though. They have no special powers, just the name.
